No No No - MOST people do not pay over 40% of their wages in tax.
That's the higher rate and MOST people are not on that tax band.

Independant checking has our taxrate at 75%.
Income tax, as you say up to 40%, the rest is stealth taxes, taxes on purchases. Gas has a tax surcharge, insurance has one. Everything you buy has a tax on it.
