RE: What have done towards your prep? - Pete Grey - 17 November 2021

Over the last couple of weeks all fences have been checked and sprayed with preservative. The pool is netted to keep out falling leaves - last resort water supply - hope the frogs don’t mind.

Lady Greys flower pots are either in the garden shed or are covered in agricultural fleece, the water butts are full so I have closed off the rain diverters to save the butts overflowing, very little else to do other than keeping things tidy.

Vehicles have had their winter checks and preps, and the camper is BO ready (a months food and supplies), the car our GHV with three days supplies incase we are delayed while we are out should an event happen.

SS sorry about the problem with the tyres, when I needed some special michelin (marked CP) for the camper about four years ago, there were none in the country, I was told they had to come from the factory, it took two weeks as they had literally just made a new batch going from the date marking, it was a good job I didn’t need them urgently .

Will have the tyres by this Friday at the latest Pete ......rang me today with the update .

Renewed four LED flood lights today .....forgot them .....but wild child did not ! ....she must be obeyed at all times and in quick order ! .

Sorting the workshop out plus the other generator enclosure over the next few days and that’s about it , ready for winter will dig over and weed the remaining raised beds and cover them with black polythene .

The eagle has landed !all the AT771 fitted this morning ! .......the tyre guy said it’s not easy getting supply these days and getting worse ....especially specialist tyres .

Dug over the remaining raised beds and covered them .....I did find some garlic ( I forgot I had ) so I planted them in one of the beds and mulched up ....also some left over onion sets so they are now planted ......made a half a bucket of potatoes out of the one cleared raised bed , some carrots , leeks , swede , turnip , all stragglers were cleaned chopped and into the stockpot they went , some of my peas, broad beans and runner beans from the freezer were thrown in as well .....stock cubes, thyme , garlic .....chick peas and peal barley , salt n pepper along with the spuds ...oh forgot the lentils so they went in to .......soup ! And plenty of it ....will batch up and into the freezer they will go .........cooked on the wood burner ! .

Had another clean up in the workshop , created some more room and stock is put away ......will give all the tools a good tickle up and clean then back to their positions and stored ready for action ! ......all that’s left to do is the other generator cover which is up next . Whistle has sounded ....over the top men ! .

I need to clean up my workshop, I heard cries for help coming from the power saw storage area the other day. I don't know what I lost over there but it sounded pitiful!

This afternoon I am cutting the legs off a dutch oven. My stove top dutch oven went missing in my last move (12 years ago) and a replacement for it is expensive and not as good as my old unit was.

I have lots of dutch ovens in the camp supply, the good ones with three legs and a lip around the lid to hold coals. I am not sacrificing one of them. They are well seasoned and handy for the outdoor fires.

I found a cheap Chinese three leg oven at a local box store for cheap and I am going to use that.

Yes, there will be an angle grinder involved, as well as other power tools. This piece of cast iron is so rough there is no way anyone could cook using it in its present condition. The legs will be ground off smooth. Then the 60 grit flapper wheel will go to work on the inside surface and after that we will work down to some 80 and 120 grit sanding disks on the drill polisher.

Them bloody f..kip fairies get everywhere ......even in America ....I have tried a clamp trap to catch them ....resulting in my leg being cut and traction for three weeks ......they are very clever and tricky to deal with .....I now am of the opinion ....I must just except them .

RE: What have done towards your prep? - Straight Shooter - 25 November 2021

P.S. forgot to mention for our American members ! Have a happy thanksgiving , enjoy the turkey if you have one , have a great day....pig out ! You are allowed ! Regards MB and CH in particular .

RE: What have done towards your prep? - Straight Shooter - 26 November 2021

Been asked by some family and friends for some of my home cured bacon ......for Christmas ! .....so I am on the case as of yesterday ...ten kilos ( four lots ) .....with five kilos hanging in the brew shed I did weeks ago ( for us ) two lots ! .........in fact I am going to try some out right now ! With some eggs and toast .....quality control testing can be a right bastard at times.

RE: What have done towards your prep? - Straight Shooter - 29 November 2021

Had a few trees come down because of the resent high winds , so I’ll have to go get them harvested over the next few days ......should be easy enough with the beast doing all the hauling ......wild child hates the cold and retreats indoors for any reason .....mainly making ME coffee .....but I don’t let on ......but I have to call a halt when she hits the twenty cup mark .......an hour !

RE: What have done towards your prep? - bigpaul - 29 November 2021

a lot of tree branches, plastic rubbish, corrugated sheets off agricultural buildings and general scrub all over the rural roads here after the recent storm.
cold here this morning, covers were frozen to the cars, took a bit of effort to remove them.
I keep two boxes of deicer, one on the go the other in reserve, use up one box start on the other and order another one so I never run out, easier and cheaper to order online by the boxfull and its delivered to the door.
