RE: Reality Check - Skean Dhude - 28 March 2012

W&C,

You supply information that others can learn from. How can you be the problem? I'm not the problem and it is my site she got her info from.

She saw an issue, decided to do something. Her OH thought she was crazy and convinced her otherwise. They may be the ones that are right but I choose to still keep my policy going.

Not missing any thing, depends on what she was thinking and prepping for, some of what I prep for is already happening, seems to me she was thinking major life changing event, that may or may not happen but what is happening is cost of living is flying up, the weather is causing all sorts of food production problems, fuel prices are a joke and are gona get worse, I work and stored food or not I could not afford to put my heating on during winter, were facing strikes that may well lead to others strikes, crime is on the up, job loses by the 1000's, shops closing down, I drove today for first time in 3 weeks ish, I was shocked at how many shops have closed since I last drove through London, we are at risk from terror attacks that are designed to cripple our financial sector and kill as many as possible, were facing a drought like 1976 , taps only came on for an hour a day,I could go on and on, big one or not were heading for much harder times, she was having a dig coz her boyfriend made her feel stupid for prepping, there's nothing wrong with my reality!

You got the balance right Prep Girl, and I know from chatting to you your mind is where it should be.

But there are a lot of loons in prepping and people that really believe they can run to the woods and live of bunnies, with their little magic bug out bag and hide from nuke bombs or plague, and that winter won’t kill them as they will just build a fire with the skills they will learn with their copy of Collins gems SAS book.

There are also far too many preppers that think they hold more importance then there fellow man they hint or just say out right how they want millions to die as long as it is not them and their loved ones, and far far away from their area, all this repeats over and over from forum to forum.

Then we have the any negative news bot type preppers who need to inform us of problems or conspiracy every day a new disaster or event, or speculation and if we don’t want to listen we are sheep who are against them, we are ungrateful of all there effort.

The list goes on no wonder people think we are loons, if the shtf everything will be basic until sthf is fixed, this is why we need to prep, I have heard before both in UK and USA preppers hitting hard times and explaining how they only now are getting by because they prep stored when times were good, and are living off their preps a personal shtf me thinks.

It is important for a UK survival prepping forum to offer skills and information that will interest new members that are thinking of becoming preppers, to join and stay and over time offer their skill set, but I am sure if the direction of a forum is not focused correctly it can go off track and we will lose good preppers or new preppers and attract the wrong type.

I am not saying I am right and maybe I am the problem.

Your exactly right cept the bit about you being the problem, that's why we are all here, to share info, learn and help each other out.

RE: Reality Check - Scythe13 - 29 March 2012

I'm the problem......usually. But not this time.

This time the issue is simple, being unevenly yoked. If you have one person with one belief, another with another belief, then there will be a conflict. The person with the strongest frame (how the see the world) will inevitably win. It's a natural part of social dynamics.

At the end of the day, we are all fine. At the end of the world (AWKI) we may not be fine. But we have more chance of being fine because we are prepared!

People come and go. UKS posted about his doubting of TSHTF, but we all know UKS is a hardcore prepper. What's great is that he is able to be open with us about what's going on in his head. Many people don't say that. YL just said what's going on in her OH's head, and then implanted that into her own.

Some people just don't think for themselves or they don't like to be 'different'. A weak 'frame' is the problem, not any of us....except usually me.

I wonder if she's thinking that she should have cached some petrol right now?? Or maybe the real world of panic and waiting in line for you fuel rations is more 'sane'

RE: Reality Check - Prep Girl - 29 March 2012

I'm touching wood as I type but no petrol probs round my way, but got full tank just in case, will fill the 3 jerrycans next week.

RE: Reality Check - cryingfreeman - 29 March 2012

Any petrol issues here and I'm a 30 minute drive from another country - just as long as I keep enough to reach the border. Doubtless they'll stick the prices up down south in that case though.

RE: Reality Check - grumpy old man - 29 March 2012

if we were all the same it would be a boring site
we all read each others post and might not agree BUT the input from all the preppers no matter how big or small make it ours and make it one of the best?
so thank you all who take part how ever mad we are
p.s. SD notice the use of CAPS i'am learning lol

RE: Reality Check - Scythe13 - 30 March 2012

Well said GOM.

I'm as mad as a hatter, but that's what makes me me.

Other people can do their thing, but GOM is right, each of us is here and we all contribute is one way or another. Whether it's knowledge, or whether it's a question we might not have thought of.

RE: Reality Check - Nemesis - 30 March 2012

We lack just a little basic prepping information, as a prepper forum we should have more information on the basic, rain farms, water treatment, off grid power, food storage, water storage, links to kit that could be of use for post shtf, DIY kit we make or have made or have seen online and would like to copy, caches, what foods to store and where to get the best deal, DIY food treatments "drying, smoking, canning, salting, pickling, brine.

Lots more but time to train.

This is what I meant when I said maybe "I am the problem" because this is the stuff I want more of and to expect it might be wrong.

No I agre with that, some sort of section where you could "bone up" on skills.
They are available on the internet BUT as I've found out, you spend day after day trawling through shi* to find a diamond of useful info.
