Been making these since I was really young, every so often I will make one but it is just getting the time to get into the open space with them, I can throw them quite far. Here is a vid. I do think with any kind of thrown object hunting and to a good extent bow hunting in hunter gatherer cultures and cultures that used such hunting techniques to supplement other foods was very much hunt by numbers. In that, I mean I just do not see one or even two fellas going and throwing, more of it being at least 5-10 people at least doing the same thing at the same time, rather than going for outright kills, using the weapons to attack a single or couple of animals en masse.
