Infrared light from smartphones - earthman - 2 October 2024

Anyone on here have any experience in infrared light and possible harm to the eyes?

Since watching the video below the other day, I've been trying to get to the bottom of some of he's claims,.....assuming that the sensor on the screen of a phone is just there to unlock the phone/sense that a person is looking at it, can the constant flashing of such an invisible ray for hours each day damage the eyes?

Yeah, that's what my common sense tells me too, would love to hear from someone else who's got some expertise in the subject though.
Any opticians on this forum? Maybe more information can be gained there?

It all depends on the power used. They can permanently damage the eyes but in this case there isn't that much put out by these little LEDs. Beware some of the little lasers you can buy though. I have a couple that can damage the eyes.

Any idea on the figures, power wise? Probably going to be difficult to find such figures from Samsung etc, they probably ain't going to publish such information though.

100% agree with you, I just like some figures etc to backup the point, may help convince others to cover up that camera on their phones.
