Its a good idea, but not a new one, my dad was doing this as long back as I can remember, he liked to store his carrots in one

I found to victorian what i believe were cesspits but they were filled with stones and rotten compost. Turned one into a root cellar and the other into a storeroom. Both were about 6 foot square and 6 foot high.
Failure is NOT an option

I wish I could have a proper root cellar but the water table is very high in my garden so I have just enough room at the raised top end to put in these barrels. |
