Additional context From Cllr Nigel Todd
I'm going to describe the West End Housing Co-op
and how it's experience signals some transferable pointers.
The event is part of the Labour City Council's commitment to become
a Co-operative Council by engaging with co-op solutions to problems
and making services more democratic.
There'll be a policy paper shortly that sets out this perspective as our
route through the local govt budget crisis. Newcastle will chart a very
different path to N. Tyneside's privatisation scorched earth policy and
other councils' slash and burn approach by just making cuts.
Local initiatives such as Greening Wingrove and the coming services
devolution experiment in Blakelaw all fit with the co-operative approach.
