Everyone is looking at two ways for resolving this;

Solar either for heating the house and water and removing that usage or as a means of generating power.
Wood burning for removing the heat and cooking requirements.

Methane gas is a good way and modern gas stoves are able to burn it. Plenty of info on the web. Do a search. Kenneth Eames.

I'm going the solar route.

Got 2 small chargers for my phones. Next up will be laptop chargers. I'm planning to run a system like WnC's but house it and be able to run that for a good few months. Then I want to be able to set something like that up on the roof to run a projector and my laptop.
