Hello from the Midlands
Been lurking on the forums for a few days now and decided to register and introduce myself.

Read a few Ray Mears and Lofty Woodhouse books and Pretty interested in Surviving off the land.

Great to find a site with a UK Bias towards prepping and to see some very informative comments.

Would be nice to know what a few of these abbreviations mean though for the Newbie :-)

Welcome. I like to think we are in roughly the right place for the UK. Coupling realism with practical stuff.

Which abbreviations are you stuck on?

Thank's for the replies, Most are self explanatory, just ASHTF
TSHTF I was confused on, Im guessing the gist is after society collapses?

Hi Stokey,

Welcome to the forum.

I had the same issue the the abbreviations when I first started.

A quick cover of what the main ones mean

SHTF = S**t Hits The Fan
TSHTF = The S**t Hits The Fan
Meaning: a bad situation.
Example: I was in a real SHTF situation

WTSHTF = When The S**t Hits The Fan
Meaning: Self explanitary I guess, When the bad situation occurs.
Example: WTSHTF, I want to get away from a city.

Opsec = Operational Security
Meaning: The privacy and secrecy of what you are doing.
Example: You want to keep opsec high, incase people know what you're doing.

BOB = Bug Out Bag
Meaning: A bag that you have with enough equipment to keep you alive for 72hrs (minimum)
Example: WTSHTF, I'm going to grab my BOB.

GHB = Get Home Bag
Meaning: Bag that contains just enough stuff so that you can get home.
Example: WOW, TSHTF!!! I need to grab my GHB, to get home.

BOL = Bug Out Location
Meaning: Where you plan to go if you have to leave your home in an emergency
Example: Quick, grab your BOB, we need to head to our BOL.

BOV = Bug Out Vehicle
Meaning: Vehicle you will use to leave your home in an emergency.
Example: Make sure the BOV is fueled up incase something happens.

TEOTWAWKI = The End Of The World As We Know It
Meaning: A change in the way the world is, due to a bad scenario/situation. People often mistake this for the genuine end of earth.
Example: WTSHTF, grab your BOB, take the BOV to your BOL, and pray it's not TEOTWAWKI.

ASHTF = After S**t's Hit The Fan
Meaning: After the bad scenario/situation.
Example: How will we rebuild society ATSHTF?

EDC = Every Day Carry
Meaning: The stuff you have with you everyday.
Example: My EDC includes a big rescue knife, £100 cash, and a mobile phone.

That's a quick run-down.

Hope that helps.
