But the West couldn't defeat the Taliban or the Vietnamese who were also armed with "old cold war stuff", and lets not forget the that Russia is a Nuclear State.
There would be no Victor's in any war between Russia and the West.

Wow, that is interesting news.
Moving troops over there could mean one of 3 things. 1. Nothing. It could just be some posturing and nothing will come of it. 2. There will be a show of strength response. This is where everyone puffs up their chests and then get bored, agree to peace, and walk away. 3. Things start to get bad and a show of action response. This is basically where a fight starts off. The implication for this is potentially massive! There could well just be the same as the 'invasion' of Crimea...non-event, but still filled the news with fear. It'll be interesting to see how it works out.

Never underestimate the ability of Barack Obama to do exactly what will damage liberty the most.
Just when you think you have his next mover figured out he stabs you in the back with a different blade from a different angle. If he were anyone else he would have been impeached and thrown in prison for treason before the end of his first term. He and Puten planned this whole scenario back in 2011, before the last US election and firmed it up at the last Russian Election. We will not ever be allowed knowledge of their arrangement. Never, ever forget that Obama's hatred for the "former colonial powers" has no bounds and no end. He still considers GB responsible for the alleged "torture of his grandfather". He will gladly sacrifice Poland or any other eastern European democracy in order to damage western Europe if it meets his ends. Over here, we are still trying to find out who is on the other end of his smartphone. He is taking direct orders from someone, and it is not the population of America.

There has to be constant fear otherwise how could the Military Industrial Complex keep sequestering huge amounts of money to defeat "the Bogey man". "War is Peace" as George Orwell reminds us in 1984. How Obama ever got the Nobel peace prize is beyond me, and a disgrace to peace activists everywhere. Killing for Peace is like Fucking for virginity.
I do not know?
Personally I do not believe what we see happening today is due to the perfect storm of stupidity evident on the surface. Obama is the greatest farce ever frosted on the public in American history. Putin does not have the sense to run the situation any better than Obama. And everyone seems to forget that there is still an open phone line between those two offices left over from the Eisenhower administration. I feel that the real problem is that we have expanded NATO far beyond what it should have been with its "one for all, all for one" support structure. One stupid move and we could all be sucked in again and be at war before we discovered is was one fool acting independently.
