Protest doesn't change anything? Did you miss the Arab Spring?
Tunisia, Egypt, Libya, Yemen all had their rulers forced from power in the course of a single year, all as a result of protest (and some fighting, but they all started as protests).
We're at a pretty incredible time in history where protest is having more effect than ever before throughout the world.
And it's set the stage for governments to take serious notice of protests. And the closer the threat of riots/anarchy is, the more potential influence those protests have.
