Solar maxima occur at approximately 11 year intervals.

Transistorised equipment that is susceptible to EMP type disturbance has been in widespread usage since the 60s that's at least 4 cycles. There has not yet been any widespread damage caused to electrical circuits. I think the risk from solar is minimal.

My faraday caged gear is in there to mitigate any true EMP effects should they occur unexpectedly.
