Hi M

Re thermal mass

The idea is to duct very hot flu gasses through a heat exchange channel within a thermal mass, such that the mass is heated an then re-radiates for a long period of time.

From firing up the stove, our one takes almost 24hrs for heat to start to be radiated from its surface, and once its good and hot, continues re-radiating for many days.

Its kind of a low-tech night storage heater.

Construction using igneous rock, such as granite sets, means the structure is able to endure the very high temperatures generated by wood or coal burning. The sets are cemented and sealed using fire clay or stove cement.

Granite sets like this ( or preferably larger): http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Granite-Sets-P...19e3020587
