Elderly social engineering
I think this was started by Maggie "T". This is the reason she wanted every person to own there own homes back in 80's.

if you own your own home, i cant see how they can FORCE you to downsize, would be different with housing association stock though!
Some people that prefer to be alone arent anti-social they just have no time for drama, stupidity and false people.

They force you by raising your taxes so you can't afford it.

That is why I don't like land taxes or council taxes. They take no interest in your ability to pay.

Only available when claiming some other benefit or you have no money whatsoever and living in poverty.

you either have enough money to pay council tax or not, if not you apply for council tax benefit, its either one or the other.

It is not that simple. If you do not work but you have cash above the limit in the bank then you cannot claim benefits. You also cannot claim council tax benefits.

therefore if you are made redundant, for example, and you get £20K or somethingin redundancy pay. No benefits and you have to pay full council tax until you get below the limits, whatever that is atm.

The best part about the Socialist nightmare in which we live is that if you have a pension which you paid into for 40+ years and it exceeds the limits set then you pay tax and council tax. Which in some cases takes you below the pension that you get for not saving for 40+ years.

thats just what i was saying, if someone has 20K in the bank then they have the money to pay council tax, there is a limit above which someone does not get benefits, it was £6,000 its now £10,000, there has to be a limit and thats it.

Ah! OK. I just don't think it is right for councils to charge someone for services they don't need based on the size of their house when they have no income. That is why I am against land tax.

RE: Elderly social engineering
I worked hard for very many years and we bought our house... No mortgage.. All ours.. Paid by us... On top of our taxes.. And NI... Unfortunately, I became too ill to work due to MS 10 years ago, but still have to pay council tax, dentist bills, etc. because as homeowners, who planned against a loss of financial income, we don't qualify for income support, or other means tested benefits.

the couple down the road, who have never had proper jobs, have never paid tax, or NI and have never paid council tax, have £38 more than us to spend every week, they don't pay for dental treatment, they get preferential deals on heating oil, decorating grants, free heating upgrades and are entitled (due to the wife being depressed, despite spending every day playing bingo) to a free foreign holiday every year....

So nothing planned, or administrated by past or current government departments surprises me!.. (I shall of course be instituting my own, self administered form of socially responsible community planning WSHTF.. Just to discourage freeloading of course)
Failure to prepare mentally, is preparing to fail totally.
