I don't really need to figure out a decent response. Can just use a funny face :-P But I think your love of winding people up can, and does deserve, some kind of response. Afterall, you and NR entertain me no end with your arguing.
But to be fair, I do see the welfare state as a movement towards socialism. If it remains as a means for people to survive while between jobs or businesses, then I'm all for it. However, if it becomes a system of dependency, then I'm vastly against it!!! Where it is now is not for me to look at, because I have better things to focus my energy on (like prepping, or sex).
But for a bit of fun.....we should embrace capitalism in it's truest form. For everyone screaming how capitalism is evil and ran by the banks......go educate yourselves properly. Read something about the origins of capitalism. Are there better systems? Possibly. Is capitalism the best that we currently have? I believe so. Is capitalism ran by the banks?......ARE YOU HIGH?!?!?!?!? Capitalism would have let the big banks fail (don't believe me? Read The Wealth of Nations and work it out for yourself) and what would have happened if the banks failed? Here's a clue.....go check what happened in Iceland when they let their banks fail. What's that you say? They have a booming economy?!?! Wow, that's wonderful. Sounds like a purer form of capitalism there, that we don't have here. Saying we have a capitalistic system, when we VERY CLEARLY do not (anyone that says otherwise, you're going to make yourself look retarded to anyone educated).
How is capitalism good? Read Ayn Rand 'Atlas Shrugged' or any other book based on Smithian Capitalism. It helps people develop and do well in life! Don't believe that? Then you're pessimistic and shallow minded. If you look at it from a view of positivity, you'll recognise that working for someone else, for minimum wage, and scraping to work up the corporate ladder, is not what capitalism is about. Capitalism is about being able to support yourself, financially, through starting your own business and providing a service that helps other people!!! Let's take the example of someone near and dear to us. Beardyman. He found out his contract was ending soon, so made a small business as a way to tie him over until he gets a new contract somewhere else. The allowance for him to do that is the result of capitalism. He is providing hugely discounted items, that are high quality, and we're all very grateful that he has done that. He is providing a service (his website) selling a high quality product (the parka's, sleeping bags, cook sets, etc) for a very good price (finally, a shop we can trust to sell at a reasonable price for the products!!!). He's providing clothing and the alike, at a cheaper price than the competition, and is thus allowing a larger audience access to higher quality products. WHAT?!?!?!?!? Capitalism bringing the price down?!?!?!? THAT'S NOT WHAT CAPITALISM IS ABOUT?!?!?!?!? Honestly, if you just said anything that was in capitals, you really are uneducated and know nothing of capitalism. Please go and play in the traffic (that's a joke, but if you really do believe that capitalism isn't about bringing the price down, then I would have expected you to genuinely go and play in the traffic thinking it was a good idea.....because you really are that dumb and uneducated, and speaking out of your a**e!!!).
Capitalism allows for people to change their financial situation, providing they put in the effort and work SMART. Not necessarily working hard, but working smart, and working for yourself.
There is no reason why people should be poor, other than lack of understanding how to use money to create more money. Lack of motivation, and the wrong mindset are 2 killers for financial success. How to use money is not something we are often taught. It's something our school system doesn't teach us. Money handling as a skill, is predominantly taught (demonstrated) to us by our parents. Which is one of the reason the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.
For me, I changed from a £25k + commission (also around £25k) job, into security guarding. On the side of this high paying security work (£6.50 per hour....probably be working 12 hours a day 6 days a week....I hope), I'm working on a business project. The guard job will pay my bills and allow me to claim back the VAT for certain items of security clothing, e.g. kevlar lined jackets/gloves/wrist guards/etc. That allows me to pay the bills while working on a side line business that will hopefully start me making some real money.
I've taken a pay cut from about £50k down to around £22.5k, with the prospect of starting my own business on the side. Will it work out? Who knows?!?! But if I don't try, then by the time I'm 35, I'll be looking back regretting not taking the risk my father took.
Yes I had a very gifted upbringing, and that silver spoon tasted lovely. But that spoon was earned by my father through working hard, getting an education, and even going a year eating nothing but bread, beans and jam (that year paid for a holiday to Disney in Florida, as he used to say). Will I always have that spoon in my mouth? Well, dad passed away 2 weeks before my marriage, which was exactly 1 month ago. I've not tasted that spoon for the last 7 years. I'd much rather lead a life how he did, and work hard to put that same tasting silver spoon into my children's mouths (if I ever have kids). Capitalism allows me to go from where I am (living with my wife in a 1 bed flat, in the middle of nowhere, earning £22.5k a year, working 12 hours a day, 6 days a week, for at least 48 weeks a year) up to where I want/aspire to be.
Will I come back and defend myself with some quick witty comment to have a laugh? Hell NO!
I'll come back and say that I'm not in as good a financial position as someone like BP, NR, SD, or most other people on this forum. Does a £50k job pay lots? Well, considering you lose LOADS in tax, then have to pay for more expensive stuff, eat at more expensive restaurants (just because your boss expects you to 'network' in those places), wear better suits that cost a whole month's net earnings after you've paid rent, and loads of other things like that....at the end of each month, I was about £150 a month better off than when I was on a basic £18k salary. Granted there was a wedding to pay for, which cost a fair chunk of my saving.....about.....every last penny I had saved. But that's just a part of life. Lifestyle increased, but I was spending 13-15 hours a day working to earn that amount of money. Regularly travelling over 300 miles a day (woo nectar points....I wish) and I hardly got to see my, now, wife.
Is that an alright response BarneyBoy? Or should I have just stuck with the funny face? haha
