The Shape of Things To Come?
It's rumoured that Greece is about to strike a deal with its private creditors to avoid a disorderly default on its debts. However, here's an interesting article suggesting what a disorderly default might look like for Greece and it isn't pretty (and it would quickly spread to the rest of Europe): http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/01/2...2B20120127

RE: The Shape of Things To Come?
My grandfather remembers in the 1930's when money was becoming more worthless day by day due to hyper inflation, He says people were so desperate to get their wealth out of paper notes, that they were buying anything physical they could - like tables, chairs, books, anything, just to fix the value of their wealth. The result of this was even more upwards pressure was directed into inflation.
I would say that if you are sitting on Euro or UK cash in the bank now, then it would be prudent to change a lot of it into physical movable goods that are of benefit to the prep minded. Further spare cash could be invested in real silver wearable jewellery like chunky arm bands & chunky necklaces.
If the banks lock their doors without public warning, then you can kiss your money goodbye and if they do open again after devaluation, your monetary value could have been slashed by 2/3rds with an emergency act of parliament. Don't leave it too late!

Was your Grandad German? I recently read 'When Money Dies' and what you describe is exactly what happened in Germany in the 20s/30s. It was the prudent savers, pensioners and people on fixed incomes who were made virtually destitute as the currency lost its value. We all blindly trust money as it's the only system we know, but money is just a promise and promises can be broken. I am with you in that I have been buying silver jewellry at a fraction of its retail value. It won't go off. I also have cash out of the bank in ££ & $$ ready for our getaway if needed. I simply don't trust TPTB to tell us the truth about the economic mess we're in, so insurance is essential IMO.
The act of Parliament you mention has been passed today: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/newsb...risis.html (along with contingency measures drawn up in November for civil disturbance/repatriation of Brits in a euro meltdown).

I agree BP, the banking masters that controll our politicians care nothing for national sovereignty. Nations don't exist to an organisation that is global, with no "home country" The Greeks have no other option than to fight to regain their country, re-instate Greek controlled currency and get back sovereignty

i've never liked this "globilisation" stuff anyway, buying clothes from China, butter/lamb from New Zealand, fruit from South America, corned beef from Brazil etc.etc. when i was growing up we made stuff in this country now its all service industries and call centres, we used to eat stuff that was in season not shipped in from the other side of the world, big business and bankers will be the ruin of this country, oh sorry, yes i know, they already are!!!

Blair was nothing but a self serving politician with no loyalty to anyone but himself, I'll tell you who scares me half to death, Angie Merkal, shes orginally East German and a rampant socialist who would love to see the EU become an EUSSR, and her pet dwarf Nick Sarkozi is an ardent federalist who will happily join up with Angie baby to shaft us all.

RE: The Shape of Things To Come?
The single country thing is possible, now that we are all in a recession/depression.

Once all the countries collapse, financially, the ability to reunify the countries, under a single banner, holding a single currency, ruled under a singular set of laws, as we already are (some of which laws break our original national laws) then we can be more easily 'conquered' and placed under one flag.

The United States of Europe. Like the USA, only Europe.

Then we will be in real trouble.
