Was your Grandad German? I recently read 'When Money Dies' and what you describe is exactly what happened in Germany in the 20s/30s. It was the prudent savers, pensioners and people on fixed incomes who were made virtually destitute as the currency lost its value. We all blindly trust money as it's the only system we know, but money is just a promise and promises can be broken. I am with you in that I have been buying silver jewellry at a fraction of its retail value. It won't go off. I also have cash out of the bank in ££ & $$ ready for our getaway if needed. I simply don't trust TPTB to tell us the truth about the economic mess we're in, so insurance is essential IMO.
