Made a new contact
Met a new dad today at school, started talking it turns out he owns a trout farm, he breeds the trout for fisheries. Explained that we are looking for a few acres for a smallholding and that I planned digging a pond and stock it with trout. He told me the best thing would be to get a few breeding trout. As the fish he normally sells to fisheries are heat treated as eggs to make them sterile so they grow quicker.

Useful tip. Have you considered carp as a food option plus any large fish could be sold to fisheries

Large carp take a long time to grow. rather have a large shoal of smaller fish roach rudd trout etc than a few big fish.

Sounds like he is the guy to get your breeding pair of trout from. Keep in with him.
