Electricity needs when the grids down.

we have had solar panels fitted courtesy of housing association, what we were told by the fitters was that we would have free electric when the sun shines, thats the simple way of explaining it, it may make our bills cheaper it may not, our meter is only read once a year the rest of the time its estimated.
I have lived in the past without electricity so I'm not really bothered if we have electric or not once the grid goes down.
I have planned my preps to live without electricity when the time comes.
