Food price rises

RE: Food price rises
We have a Tescos a few miles up road of us - when it was built there was a certain amount of upheaval with a road diversion and various other bits and pieces some of which benefitted the local community. We go there from time to time and have noticed the price rises and also the choice has diminished somewhat - you cannot rely on getting what you want when you go there, which is a pain.
Some local businesses did close which was not a good thing for the proprietors - the staff went to work for Tesco. A local supermarket still trades and very well too it would seem. The chap who runs it is very alert to opportunities and fills the gaps left by the big boy and gives a more personal service and the local butcher does pretty much the same thing.
We were once described as 'a nation of shopkeepers'. In our hey day perhaps this was true but life moves on and we have to learn to adapt. Business and life itself is a competitive occupation - survival of the fittest, not necessarily the best.
As for the weather it would seem that this is due to the 'jet stream' having a wobble or two just recently - perhaps it will wobble back to where it used to be at some point in time, who knows.
In the meantime we just have to get on with it and survive. Aint life grand?
