According to press releases over here there has been a sudden surge in communications between cells in the UK as well as the sudden rise in returns from the Syrian region.

Right now there is a fierce competition for recruits between the old Al Quida and new ISIS factions and each group is in a rush to seem like they are doing something other than executing unarmed newspaper photographers.

They are placing themselves in a position where one or both of the groups must do something BIG in order to appear the most important of the groups.

Better to up the threat level and let people know there is a danger than to suppress the information and have a few thousand casualties to answer for.
