Now that has to be the ultimate prep, if only they were a little less expensive

But if you had a group of people in an area who did a shared purchase and use then that could work well.

There is some reoccurring facts coming to bear here, firstly no matter how much kit/resources we have first and foremost we have recognised a need to prep and secondly from that we develope a plan, from there we are conscious of the resources we need and this is developed on a what we can basis I started with nothing and my first tactic I developed was to double up buying essentials and things grew from there, when you also have this mind set its amazing what you can aquire for free, in my case fire wood, empty gas bottles and canisters. Try driving round youre local industrial estate you won't be disappointed. We all have to start some where

Dev Thanks for that I'm going to look into getting a dehydrator, my old mate in the US had a solar powered version I doubt if we get enough sun.

Prepping has completely changed my entire direction and long term goals. I don't think I'll be satisfied until I've got some fertile land with water somewhere. I intend to go 90% self sufficient in partnership with my brother, but I won't be able to achieve this for many years. Until then I can only be a prepper with 3 months or so of supplies.

I'm glad it changed direction so early for me though, as I can actually save and put aside (hopefully during a military career) for land now with family members, and get started whilst I'm still relatively young.

Hopefully land will still be available in a few years time. At least a few acres with woodland and water would be good enough to start with.

How old were you NR when you started prepping? I think I remember you saying it was during your military service.

1979 / 80 ish just as I left the regs and joined the TA, it was combat survival that interested me first which lead to wilderness survival, then when the family came along and the cold war started warming up proper old school survivalism.
We actually bought a house ( just a little two bed terrace) because in the back yard the government or someone had built a bomb shelter with steel clad wood doors and 18 inch thick re=enforced concrete walls and roof. I wanted it to keep my motorcycles in ( bike theft was rampant in Teesside back then) but it soon became a well stocked shelter.
