When was the last time you heard about large numbers of teachers and students dying in school fires? Think about how regularly schools and other public institutions and workplaces hold fire drills. The vast majority of teachers know some basic first aid. Now imagine if schools held active shooter drills, where everyone knew exactly what to do, how to get out quickly etc, and teachers who chose to be armed knew how to work with law enforcement to intervene and stop the shooter before some horrific mass killing occurred.

They tried an assault weapons ban in parts of America a few decades ago. Did it do anything other than make innocent shooters suffer and raise prices? No.
There seems to be a lot of noise about "High capacity clips" and "assault weapons." These terms are meaningless buzzwords. Often the innocent looking hunting rifle and the scary black rifle fire the same cartridge, or are the same gun but with a finish and accessories. It's just mothers against everything scaremongering. Reducing magazine capacity will not stop gun crime any more than reducing car speed will prevent vehicle crimes. An assault weapon is a rifle which has automatic capability and firearms an intermediate cartridge, not a semi auto rifle.
And for those who say that there is no need for civilians to own such rifles:
Military style rifles are ergonomic and well designed
They are easily to customize and come with a wide range of aftermarket parts
They are often easier to clean in the field.
They are lots of fun to shoot, and are just as valid as hunting rifles.
They are good for home defense against the increasing numbers of home invasions.
They are your liberty teeth. You simply cannot be pushed around by tyrants as long as you keep possession lethal weaponry.
"But killing is wrong!"
Under some circumstances, yes. But to protect your life, liberty and property, as well as those of others, NO, NO, NO. Self defense should be as natural a right as flinching is in reaction to danger. How else a can a wheelchair bound disabled person defend themselves? Or an old women? Or one guy against lots of drunk guys?
God made man, but Sam Colt made them equal.
