On my Jeep I run the SG7900 on a Yaesu NMO rear hatch mount and performance is stellar!
My understanding is that the reason they don't recommend it for mag mounts is its length, they are afraid of tree bashing on country roads, etc. If you use a tripod mount with multiple magnets for a more sturdy attachment it will work wonderfully.
