Books please?
Can anyone recommend good useful Survival books please? I want to have as much info as possible and fast.
I do not see anything good happening for a long time as the effects of this pandemic destroy life as we know it.
Sensible books at a reasonable price written by authors who really know what they are talking about is what i would like. Thanks.

RE: Books please?
Hi first of all get a usb key or low watt device and put on it information, I use a tablet and a mobile phone and put the same info on both, I can also recharge these devices many different ways, I will show you one, it is part of my bug out set, a simple setup.
Get yourself these items.
RAVPower 16W Solar Charger with Dual USB Port
A tablet or other mobile device.
My Rav power solar device will charge my tablet 8% in 20 mins, my panel was bought back in 2016 and is 15watt not 16watt I have linked, so at that rating your still get around 8% per 20mins, allow for differences for larger batteries.

So now you have your mobile solar and tablet/phone, you can download many youtube videos and store to device/s
I use IDM and I bought it but you can download for free a 30 day trial with no restrictions.

If your in UK this is a good video as example for you to store and study now.

This site has many books that will help you and are free.

Remember to slow down and calm down, and practice what you read.
I will get back to this thread with more help, I don't want to overload you.

RE: Books please?
There are many book around about surviving and prepping. At this stage my suggestion would be to find some about producing your own food in your garden. There is a book on Amazon from David the Good on this which is good as well as a couple of others which involve longer term set up. Have a look around and I'm sure others on her must have their own favourites.

RE: Books please?
I would avoid allotments if we are talking about extremely hard times I reckon they might be a target, if shtf allotments are pointless either way both would mean hard work and costs to then be robbed.
If we just go into hard times, make ends meet kind of thing, then allotment would be great, the advantage of an allotment your meet so many people that will offer up years and years of knowledge and your get to swap for free seeds and foods.
Growing food is a big deal protecting what you grow is even bigger, unless you have a garden or back yard consider, grow bag and wild foods as a skill set, also plant trees if you have the space my garden yields easy 2000 apples per year, 3000+ plums, huge amounts of elderberry, black berries and rhubarb and I don't have to do anything anymore for these crops they are established now.
I used to grow potatoes/cabbage/ carrots/tomatoes/strawberry's and figs but I sort of stopped for the last three years, other things in life got in the way.
My garden is not as big as this chat might make it seem, I get these numbers from 4 apple trees, two plum trees, just one elder tree, as for the rhubarb I planted 6 when I first joined this forum and I think I even posted about it here somewhere, to this day 5 have survived and one died, they keep on giving while in season fast growing crop I get so much I give it away.
Everything I grow or used to grow I picked because they are mostly self sufficient.

RE: Books please?
I forgot to mention I have a cherry tree placed about 15 yards from my shooting bench, I planted this tree not for the cherry's because I knew I could not compete with the birds who don't mind cherry's not ripe, my goal was for the birds being the crop themselves, the tree is huge now yields a lot of crop lol.

RE: Books please?
I agree Nem (allotments) but you have to gain some control of a food supply, even in a hedgerows use them as camo and in plain sight ....as MB suggested some time back ( pulses ) I did try it out but low yields but produced none the less , as I posted some weeks back I planted some spuds down the bottom end of my ground ....will check them out end of this week .
The fact is you have to grow food ! Given the delay timeline to actually eating what you grow .....even containers will give a good supply , security.....you point out is very valid and you will have to consider how to protect the produce and how you store it .....if I you fail ......you starve ....in the worst case scenario , you and your family’s survival may well depend on what you produce, is it going to get that bad ? ........if it does You will be ready .....plan for the worst hope for the best ........besides what have you got to lose ? Except some time and a few quid.
I am very lucky to have the ground I have ......but the decision to buy this place 35 years ago ...is the very reason of what’s going on now and that’s the truth no bull shit ....plus my grandfather wanted to buy this place in 1960 ....
we got there in the end !

RE: Books please?
If you have the time, there are many resources of information post TSHTF. Over the years I have printed off thousands of pages of information for future use. Medical info, NBC defence, firearms and explosives use, military training manuals and much more. Last check it was over 5k of pages.
Many of these books are available electronically now, but I started long before smart phones and tablets even existed so I have continued to add to the library.
It takes a while to find it, but it’s all out there somewhere. Also, the library weighs over 100lbs so electronically would probably be the way to go.
If you have several weeks to spare you are welcome to photocopy it!

RE: Books please?
The guys on the Time Team crew used to discuss what was going to happen when the archaeologists 2000 years from now dug up all of our thumb drives, CD disks and dead hard drives.
"What is this stuff? How did they use it? It's everywhere in this era but we have no idea what it is!" I do not any longer know a single person that owns a reel to reel tape recorder, and you can not buy a video tape recorder or player and that technology is only 25 years old.
For important stuff stick with the paper and ink.

RE: Books please?
One of the best survival references is the pocket book Six Ways In and Two Ways Out, written by George Jasper, of the US Rescue and Special Operations Group. The "little green book" is printed on waterproof paper and wire bound, sized to fit into a battledress uniform pocket. It is a basic skills compilation of training material used to train US military personnel during the Survival and Evasion course. The author has added brief text that applies to the material about instructor and unit cadre experiences in the field. There are over 185 pages of text and simple to follow illustrations. Or purchased direct from the publisher here: (even with overseas postage is less expensive than Amazon)
