RE: PGs camper van
The camper is still doing ok, and is still well set up for holidays but due to various changes at our chosen BOL
and health/age issues, I can’t see us bugging out in an emergency.
With this in mind it is focusing us on keeping our home preps up to scratch.

RE: PGs camper van
Camper has passed the MOT, no issues whatsoever, not bad for a 22 year old motor.
Antifreeze topped up, handbrake off wheels chocked, on c-trek charger maintainer,
dehumidifier inside to prevent any damp.

RE: PGs camper van
Most vehicles fail their MOT now for stupid reasons based around legislation.
For example my car does not have an air con. The sensor they installed to make the system think that an air con is in and working failed and so the dash shows a fault. The book says it is aircon but it still fails the MOT because a fault light equals a fail. MOT checkers are not allowed to see it isn't a safety issue and make a decision.
Government deliberately do this to force cars off the road and make you get a new one. They are scum.
Older cars have they basics and very little else. I spotted an old Triumph Stag last week. Very nice. No computer at all.

RE: PGs camper van
my car is off the road because the ABS unit is not working properly, it had to be sent to a specialist "technician", garage says it will cost hundreds of £'s rather than thousands for a new one, think of selling it and getting another old car.
I cant put up with all this modern tech rubbish.

ABS modern tech? Jeez. I thought I was ancient.
Find it hard to believe an ABS unit could cost hundreds never mind thousands. Any scrap yards near you?

RE: PGs camper van

RE: PGs camper van
BP, Well if you want to keep someone in business who are selling you very expensive bit you don't need then carry on. But even where you are there are people than buy seconds hand parts on eBay and install them for you. You want to be looking at ways to save money and not subsidising someone who wants to maximise his profit from you. Just my view.

RE: PGs camper van
the local garage have looked after our cars for the last 15 years and they do a very good job, at my age I have given up scrabbling under cars just to save a few quid. never was much of a mechanic anyway, motorbikes YES, cars NO.
in any case the repairs I spoke about were as a result of putting my car in for the annual MOT.
I still think I may sell the new car and get an older one once it is repaired and MOT'd. dont like all the bells and whistles, does my head in.

BP, Fair enough. If you are happy with the situation then go for it. I have a similar situation with my mechanic here and I don't mind him making profit from his services. It was the thousands from an ABS system that caused me to comment. i nearly choked on my tofu juice.
