Scouting Activity Ideas
Hi Everyone

Just a quick question for some ideas for my Scouts.

I'm trying to teach them cool survival skills. Any ideas on what kind of things I should teach them?

Today we're learning to make fire without matches or a lighter (they'll have lighters, but no fuel, so they can only use the spark from the flint).

I'm doing things like air-rifle shooting, archery, climbing, some MMA, camping, fire building, and things like that.

That should keep you going!
Oh and see if you can get hold of a 1970's or earlier Scouting for Boys Handbook. You'll be amazed at what's in there compared to the namby pamby book you have today.

How to wash in the field.

Self hygiene.
Vital in a survival zone and the ability to have a good wash using only a billy can's worth of hot water is a useful skill. Improvised tooth brushes!

Boots and foot care.
How to keep boots waterproof, laces, how boot polish and saddle soap works.
The importance of chosing the correct socks and why they should be carrying loads of socks.
What foot powder, trimming nails, dealing with blisters, appropiate use of gaiters or puttee's.

Survival sewing. Sounds stupid but some grown ups can't sew on a button or even how to use duct tape to temporarily repair a split seam. Don't forget how to thread a needle in no light!
