The Fun Police Strike Again

So, I got a Black Oxide Leatherman Wave for my birthday. To be fair, I probably should have got a model with a non locking knife. It was in my pocket when I went to Army Cadets. I had to teach some new guys how to put up a basha, so I used the knife to sharpen some sticks for tent pegs. My knife was taken off me, and very nearly sent to knife prison with all the wobbly handled Tesco kitchen knives confiscated by police. The CO at my cadet detachment is a police officer. I was simply told if he ever saw it again in a cadet setting, he would take it off me.

I feel quite angry that knife laws were allowed to expand to the point where a pair of pliers with a knife in the handle is now illegal without specific reason to carry. At one time any English Freeman could carry a sword on his belt. Talk about social progression.

Sometimes, I almost wish our society would collapse, so we could start again, with an airtight constitution that supported personal liberty, similar to Americas but with no room for interpretation by socialists who would reduce us to a 1984-esque police state.
Thankfully I was allowed to keep my leatherman, and so did not have to tell the nice policeman how I felt.

its absurd, especially when your using it for a legitimate reason in a legitimate setting, crazy.....measure the knife and see if its below 3 inches, if it is, they cant do shit, its legal to carry anywhere!

I agree the non-locking 3" knife law rule is weird but the law states "without a good reason" and a good lawyer could have argued that teaching children outdoor-skills was a "good reason" for having your Leatherman.
The Cadets were probably just scared that if a child cut their finger they'd get sewed. Whereas if I'd cut my finger at that age I'd have considered I'd learnt an important lesson about knives!

Unfortunately the American Constitution doesn't seem to be doing them much good.

I was a detachment Commander of an LI cadet detachment, We as a detachment and as a company encouraged cadets to take multi tools to train with. The idit cop is in the wrong job, theres bigger knives in the cookhouse.

Technically, any pointed or bladed article is illegal to have in a public place, without good reason. The exception is folding, non locking blades below 3 inches, for which you can say "general utility" if asked by the police about why you have it.

i think it should not be illegal to CARRY a knife, they should have to prove" INTENTION TO USE" in a violent manner..not carrying to cut some rope or sharpen a stick! still this is the messed up country we live in where eventually everything gets banned. bring on the apocalypse and lets start again from ground level.

I'm betting your CO failed in the army,
the TA didn't want him either,
so he ended up as a policeman.

The scouts or the girl guides didn't want him, the ATC just laughed at him,
and the salvation army just stood looking at him thinking "What a wally".
THe only place left was the army cadets.

Where else could he feel even mildly important?

I agree with what has already been raised. If having something like that for Army cadets isnt "good reason" I don't know what is.

I think I had a fixed blade 6 incher on a belt drop on my thigh on my leg in scouts and that was only back in 1995.

Prior to that as I am sure with some of the older members here, everyone had a "rambo" knife when they were about 10. With the compass, hollow handle full of macthes and fishing line etc.
