Most families will be spending more than that I reckon, Mortgages, Council Tax, Gas, Elec, Water, food, fuel, clothing liesure, etc.

I certainly don't get that much after tax (thats with lots of overtime) so I would love to have to struggle by on that much.

But I really can believe that figure. Which kind of explains why those payday loan companies are so popular.

If you look at rent or mortgage at about £500 a month, that's instantly £125 a week. Then gas and elec and council tax, and road tax, and insurance for house, car, life, medical, and then petrol/diesel.....it quickly adds up. I was going through about £120-£150 a week on diesel, but that was on business expenses. The wife is going through £100 a week, at least, but that's also business expenses. So if you add just diesel and rent, that's £125 (rent a week)+£100 (her fuel a week)+£120 (my fuel a week) that's a nice big £345.00 Add to that our weekly shop of around £70 (being a vegetarian is damn expensive, and healthy food costs LOADS now!!!) that makes it up to at least £415

I definitely see the £483 as possible. If we didn't get the fuel allowance in our jobs, we'd be totally screwed.

Shit, I spend every penny I bring home a week. We're getting through about £850 a week, every week. Been the same for the last 5 years though.

agree with you BB, they put it all on the credit card and then use another credit card to pay the first one, and so on. my old dad had the right idea, he told me when i left home"if you want something SAVE up for it", trouble is everyone wants it NOW, and their 2 or 3 foreign holidays every year, i cant remember the last holiday i had and i've only been abroad TWICE in my life!

I had the same advice from my father BP......and i stick to it, always have always will, back to the point, i would love to have the problem of £483 per week ....i have been self employed for 39 years had good times " rare " normal has always been watching evey penny..... once ...first married could not afford coal ...asked dad for some up he comes in his car with 2 sacks of coal and this is what he said ( you have a wife and 2 kids YOU have to take care of then son PADDLE YOUR OWN CANOE like i had to thats the deal ) been paddling ever since that day.........the bugger used to pop a sack in sack in when i was in work......till i got on my feet.... i miss my dad
