The .177 vs .22 argument lives on just the same as it does on the Airgun forums, pretty similar to the Mac vs PC on the computer forums.

It is horses for courses. People can concider the advantages and disadvantages of both for their use or try each and choose what they prefer.

Although I have a small amount of .177 ammo I have standardised on .22. It suits me best.

Of course they do 177 flies a flat trajectory which makes it vastly superior for paper punching, but target shooting and real shooting are totally different things and in 99 % of the time in real world hunting bigger is usually better, Wether they are competing in 177 or 22 0r 25 its NOT real hunting, its knocking down totally static critter shaped targets, great fun but not realistic.

You are restricted to 12 ft/lb energy at the muzzle no matter what you shoot, which means the power is the same, only the trajectory changes.

That makes the .177 easier to shoot, not necessarily the better gun.

It also does not give the heavier .22 pellet any advantage in power over on your side of the pond.

Your restrictions are written for a single purpose, to prevent anyone from having an effective weapon capable of killing anything.

Use them as such.

"anything"?? don't you believe it, plenty of small game can be taken by an air rifle and regularly is! don't be so dismissive just cos we cant go out and buy an assault rifle and blast away at anything that moves!!

certainly not recently, air rifles have come a long way in recent times.
