Not so. I second what timelord said.
Diesel engines will run for a while on Vegetable Oil but you may be significantly reducing the engines life expectancy.
Generally (and it's not a hard and fast rule) older diesel engine designs can better tolerate Vegetable Oil. Newer diesel engines are fussier about their fuel.

That's true - I wouldn't put it in a new vehicle - I run an old L reg hilux surf, even ran on soya oil (put in by mistake)
But then if you can afford a new car, you can afford to run it on derv

RE: Veg Oil
Dont forget the colder it gets the less veg oil you can use cos it clogs up the lift pump, max about 10% in winter, I even add a few mils of nail varnisher remover when I used SVO to help it flow and maintain a useful cetain value.

I got a load of red-ex from Costco when it was on special offer. Normally whack some of that in there with it to keep the injectors clean etc.
Yeah, can be a bit hard to start on a cold morning. I tend to run it on derv in the winter and then SVO in the summer.
Oh, NR, the Honda died in the end. The engine seized up in the yard!

I know. Who thought these cars need oil and water?!?
I found one in Basingstoke that runs in the evenings, so waiting for more information from them. Only £85 for 10 weeks tuition, not too bad.

£1.25? Wow. I pay £1 a litre.
Don't notice a huge loss in mpg to be honest.
