USB/Solar/Wind up Radio
Considering purchasing this from Amazon, price looks good at £12.85, anyone purchased one of these, or have any advice on a better alternative around the same price range?

Got one, they are absolutely TINY which is good to keep one in your kit BUT the station tuning dial is abysmal and the integral speaker horribly tinny

Cheers NR, as long as I can get the main stations in times of a possible event. Have you tested how long it runs on a wind up alone?

Less than 20 minutes run time on the crank, its really a very basic bit of kit.

These also have a shortwave radio receiver built in.

Again quite a small radio and rather plastic, but the ones I've looked at do work quite well:

Lightspeed - Looks a bit better that one and like the SW band. Also has functions to charge Cell Phone, Charging Jack. If that means you can charge a phone by cranking the radio and charging off of that then that's a very useful feature...

RE: USB/Solar/Wind up Radio
Bought a wind up led torch/radio from Aldi about 7 years ago, still works. My real back up radio is my tiny MP4 player with built in radio. Real advantage of this is the extremely low power consumption (easily charged with my solar stuff) plus, with the earphones, very discrete and excellent sound quality. The wind ups do make a racket sometimes but then again, with earphones, you're masking some sounds you may want to hear...
