They do not know if that is the historic record because no one has ever volunteered to go up there and check the thermometer! The new "record" is an estimation from some satellite 250 miles up in space. That is how all these new "records" are being gathered both hot and cold.

About 99% of the Canadian population lives within 50 miles of the southern border and the part that is right now -50 is empty and no one cares.

After WW1 the Canadian government offered the veterans free land in Canada in return for their service in the war and they rioted!

It's not always -50 at all - that's just ridiculous.

It's a general trend. A record is a record. Next year, a new record is broken, the next year, again. Before you know it it's -50 in early August and all Canada's crops are gone.
