I know the government will want to do that, but it's the squadies that will be at ground zero, and I think many of them are able to think for themselves. They'll stand there and realise it's wrong. I don't think they'll pull the trigger. Some will, but not all. Those that are there to protect the country and protect the people, they will take out those that would shoot. I believe our soldiers are at heart decent guys and gals. Mainly because I have quite a few good friends in there. There's at least 4 people that I know that would not shoot, but would take out anyone shooting at their own nation.

You appear to have omitted the UN / EU part of the equation, IE the UK has only 88 ,000 combat troops in total, but already and highly worrying is the EU is still trying to create an EU army of some 200.000 plus troops to be deployed in any member country that "needs" them. Imagine a desperate UK govt appealing to the EU/UN for peace keeping troops, and you find German generals, French officers, Polish and Spanish deployed in the UK.
