as for ploughing with horses how many draught animals are there about these days? very few aparrt from the odd ploughing match its all tractors.
Well we have a centre near me which specialises in heavies, plus a Percheron breeder and many folks who still compete in ploughing matches (and breed their own horses) - that's where we got the Clyde's.
Barring that, any cob cross or carriage horse will do the work - depending on the soil and how far gone it is. One just has to be realistic. A Shire horse bought as a pet (I know of several) can live up to twenty years of age, but one who has to work will only live between six to ten years on average. This is why a solid understanding of animal husbandry, confirmation, breeds and training might (might) be useful in the long ahead future.
