Could you ever foresee a time when hungry folks bank on your door. Giving away extra food may placate them after all there are only so many things that can be loaded.
Also 'careless picnickers' are credited with seeding edible food in many unexpected areas. I may have made a comment on a garden thread but am certainly not suggesting anything, if you understand m meaning.
