As for air attack warnings, most were scrapped in the early 1990s, some sirens were kept in areas liable to flooding and around nuclear power power stations.

The civil defence corps (the volunteer organisation of over 300,000 trained personnel) was stood down in 1968. All we have now is the Fire and Rescue Service.
