Dangers of becoming complacent

I'm still working out what I need to do to prepare. I don't see a lot of realism on most prepper sites which seem to be run by people who are selling expensive equipment with an intension to make a lot of money and retire. As such, there's a whole industry manufacturing a concept of "prepping" which just makes them money. They don't really have any idea about the risks we face.
