We Need Money

Scythe, I think you are looking at this from a modern mindset. As BP said, the human race got along just fine for most of its history without the need for money or currency. The thing is we now have so much crap that simple barter may well not work. Although much of this crap will be irrelevent. We will most likely be back to the simple basics that matter.
In a more primitive situation, then those that are not productive will not do well. It is ok having the charitable notion of supporting people with no skills by paying them money, but will that money be accepted elsewhere? Would you accept money for access to your valuable supplies or kit? On the other hand, if they did some useful labour that benefitted you, then maybe it would be worth a slice of your supplies. Money is only any good if people are interested in accepting it in exchange for their valuables. Otherwise you could be the one left with a handful of patterned metal discs.
Would it not be better that the useless skilled people had a job change and were put to work on the land or any other community project in exchange for food & board and a stake in the rebuilding of society. They probably wouldn't survive without a common goal and may turn into raiders or worse.
In history, money was only really useful if society could produce a surplus of commodities. Without a surplus there was no need for a system of storing wealth. In Earlier Roman times, soldiers wages were paid in Salt. It was a valuable and useful resource. Value of labour & resources does not have to be represented by "money", which is of no practical value on its own.
Most tribal cultures do not use money. There is no requirement for it. The Red Indians did not use it and traded with the European settlers quite happily.
By having people bartering goods and labour you actually forge closer bonds & responsibility between them. Money can be manipulated and used to cause grievance. It can also be used to draw wealth out of society - much as today and to instigate inflation to the benefit of the few.
We are indoctrinated into the money system, but it is not all it appears to offer. TL
