The best currencies for immediate survival will be fuel, ammunition, antibiotics, and medical supplies probably followed by cans, dried stuff, clothing and tools.
Not forgetting anyone with medical training who is going to be worth their weight in . . . . . . . anything they want!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Money, gold, and silver?
Sounds OK but that's old world values.
You can't eat or drink it, or even burn it. It's long term thinking yes but it needs a measure of worth i.e. an exchange rate. Old values.
Until a 'new' civilisation is re-established, you've got to eat, drink, keep warm and stay well. Let alone defend yourself so I'll be trading in bullets and beans.
No, the guy who has the sense to get hold of a warehouse or truck full of supplies and fuel will rule in the immediate future after a major event not the guy with a bag full of pretty metal.
Personally I'm going to be looking for a gunshop or military armoury first and then a quiet gas station or food distribution warehouse. Preferably all three!
i reckon a warehouse of tinned food would be my wish...after all, the survivors would all have to eat, and what is the one thing everyone will need....FOOD!!
And tin openers, don't forget tin openers. Yup that's what I'll be stockpiling.
