Been about for ages now, linux distros. You can have them on CD or USB drive - very handy things. Best one I've found so far is PHLAK - but that's no longer is developement, so stuck with the older version.
I only run linux at home, so no need to worry about spyware / malware / virii.
Also, if you have an older PC that's slow and crap, whack linux on it to revive it to it's former glory. Takes much less processing power than windows to run
