The answer is Yes. We all are.
The problem with the modern age is that contractors do work in the streets on legit business, your phone lines crackle, your computer runs slow, chav scum break in, ...
The only way to handle it is for you to assume that you are always under surveillance and act accordingly.
Yep, I agree with all that.
I reason for writing the article was a chat with a local PC resaler / repairer I've just found.
He was saying that there had been a massive rise within his catchment zone in laptop sales as more and more people use free access wireless ports and schools / colleges are pushing harder for every student to own a computer.
Something I'm pretty certain most preppers with middle school or above aged kids will appreciate.
He used to offer the service of installing a freeware antivirus and firewall but so many people didn't believe it necessary, he's reaping the benefit of their ignorance of the dangers.
The troubling thing for him is the amount of PC's and Laptops his little firm "repairs" that come in without any form of anti virus or malware protection for performance related issues and data recovery.
A money maker yes but It's time consuming work yet you can't charge an hourly rate on a job that in some cases can take 8-10 hours if you include data recovery. Ergo, steady work but not much profit.
I have to say that I'm the same. I love getting a slow running machine because 9/10 times it's malware that has caused the problem.
Easy money / barter for me.
Both of us agreed though, malware, Google, and programs with stealth information gathering is on the increase and he's finding on average one machine a week with sensitive data collected without a persons knowledge. (Account numbers and details, passwords, card numbers, etc)
That's one of the many reasons why we both wouldn't entertain any form of online banking or online purchase.
