RE: Why are preppers hated so much
The same people that laugh and criticize survivalists (For some reason I have come to dislike the term prepper) are living on borrowed time.
People also tend to tend to laugh at stuff that they do not understand, is alien to them, or when it makes them feel uncomfortable on a subconscious level.
By laughing at someone who knows how to deal with a choking baby, has food stored up, or knows how to defend themselves, they are mentally distancing themselves from thinking about how they would handle that scenario.
It's the same reason that we see people losing everything to wars, rebellions and natural disasters on TV, but people never want to consider what would happen if it happened, god forbid, in merry old England. They will do anything to maintain their comfortable illusion. It's like Brave New World; they have come to love their chains, and will push away people attempting to free their minds.
Woe to those who add house to house and join field to field, Until there is no more room, So that you have to live alone in the midst of the land!
