Why are preppers hated so much

The problem I think with US Preppers is that many of them (not all)are armed with a great deal of weapons and many of them don't like the Government or the recession they are in. I have heard some crazy views aired on Youtube by a few US based preppers and to tell you the truth I'm very surprised that they are allowed to have guns with such extreme views.
