To FAC or not to?

Does anyone know anything about ammo? Is blank ammo just the same as normal but without the "bullet" bit that comes out the end of the gun? Or for instance, 12g blank shells. Are they filled with the normal black powder or whatever is used to make a normal 12g shell go bang & discharge the shot? I know the blanks are a lot shorter than normal shells.

Any feedback anyone? Just a curiosity of course. Not planning anything naughty or dangerous. :p
