My own plan is maybe a months supply of food etc and a stash of silver/USD to get us out of dodge to a more stable country. With the UK planning to shut borders in the event of a SHTF scenario involving the collapse of the euro, I don't feel too hopeful. Does this (or any other condition which forces a reliance on medication with a shelf-life) affect anyone else and what are you doing to prep?

Well Sir that is a very difficult issue and depends just how much time money and resources you can invest to protect the T1 diabetic, In the novel " One Second After" and the novel " Lucifers Hammer" both the characters with T1 diabetes expired early because they had no insulin natural or made made to help balance their blood sugars and ketones etc.

However my wife is a clinical diabetes specialist and she advises me thus.
Insulin will generally last for up to one month out of a fridge, New batches on insulin depending on the type and manufacturer can (possibly) last for up to a year or the use by date on the bottle ( If Refrigerated). Insulin used after its expired will still work for a while longer but you will find it wont work as well or for as long so may be needed more often or in larget doses. Refer to your GP ( All Caveats Apply).

The only other option is for the diabetic or their family to learn how to extract insulin from Cattle and Pigs as they did in the early part of the 20th century before synthetic insulin was developed. One book reported a family relocating in the US to be next to a farm so they could extract insulin from the slaughtered animals and process it themselves.
