This old place was built before cavity wall insulation was available. We have open fires, so burn wood and coal. We tend to stay in one room in winter - it's cheaper than heating the whole house via central heating. Warm rugs over knees; cosy thick fleeces and ski socks. Heat-seeking missiles (cats!) keep our knees and laps warm.
Always busy even in winter and exercise keeps the blood flowing. Wear hats and gloves to keep extremities warm. It's just common sense.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
