A bit different but this brings it to mind - I read somewhere that during WW2, old oil was converted to glycerine. That could be useful if it could be replicated on a small scale...

Apart from looking after your hair RS, it can be used to produce ethanol and is used in the production of nitro. (Don't ask me how - I Googled it! Smile)
