Scythe 13, this post brings up some very important issues, especially from the point of "appliance addiction". Now I am not one for "conspiracy theories", (and before anyone chews me for dissing those theories, I mean no insult) but I have definitely noticed TV withdrawal symptoms. I spend some time every year in another country where English or any European language is not the first language, yet those people will have the TV on, with no understanding of what is being said!.
Why they would do this is beyond my understanding, is it the fact that the TV has become an essential part of our existence, as necessary as food to Human life, or is TV somehow addictive. Being of a scientific nature I would say there is no logical reason to assume that the TV being no more than a data delivery system is capable of inducing Human dependency, and any dependency is psychological rather than physical. Observation being essential to scientific method, I would have to say, TV exhibits all the symptoms of addiction on both levels.
Or does it mean I've turned to the Dark side and require a Tinfoil Hat?
