How to Make Homemade Chlorine Bleach

thank you nemesis for this informative post. i agree this could be an option, if handled properly. Some dangers to be aware of: 1.It can decompose violently if contaminated with organic matter or corroded metal. Use only a clean and dry glass or ceramic cup to dispense it.
2.It gets very hot when damp and releases chlorine gas; it may burst its container.
3.When in contact with organic materials such as oils or solvents it can burst into flames.
4.When in contact with acid it releases large amounts of poisonous chlorine gas.
5.It attacks the skin causing bleaching and severe 'burns'.
6.Inhaling it can cause lung irritation and sometimes irreversible damage.

Safe handling:
1.Never buy large quantities of the chemical.
2.Always store separately in a cool dry place in the original container with the airtight lid closed, well away from other chemicals such as acids used in pool treatment, oils, paints, etc.
3.Never repack calcium hypochlorite into another container. A violent reaction could occur with the container itself, or the traces of organic material left in it.
4.Wear gloves when using products containing bleaching powder.
5.Always open the container in subdued light.
6.Add the calcium hypochlorite powder to the water, never the other way around and do not mix it with other pool chemicals.
7.Never drop or roll a container of calcium hypochlorite, since it may ignite with friction.
8.If spilled, wash off the skin or out of the eyes with plenty of water. If on clothes, IMMEDIATELY remove them and immerse in water or just jump into the pool fully clothed, otherwise clothes may ignite spontaneously.
9.Never return sweepings to the container.

I'm not conflicting with nemesis' information, just trying to provide some safety info. as with any chemical, its only as safe as the person handling it.
